Aampere is a Munich based startup building a digital platform for buying and selling used electric vehicles across Europe. The company focuses on creating transparency and efficiency in the used EV market through data driven pricing and standardized vehicle quality.

After recently securing a €1.6 million pre seed investment, Aampere is now preparing to scale. From the beginning, the team wanted to build and follow an Automation First mindset that would enable scalable growth, efficient operations, and a lean organizational setup. This strategic focus on automation is where the partnership with NOA originated.

Challenge

While a core element of an Automation First approach is building automations that simplify workflows and improve efficiency, an equally important part is having the right people to design, operate, and scale these systems. At Aampere, this became a structural challenge early on.

The job market offers only a limited number of profiles with strong low code and automation skills. While many candidates are tech affine and can be trained, very few bring hands on experience with tools like Make or n8n in production ready setups. Beyond building workflows, Aampere needed someone who understands how to design automations sustainably and with scalability in mind. This includes establishing proper monitoring and error handling, defining clear naming and structure conventions, and creating solid documentation. Without this foundation and clear ownership, automations risk becoming fragile, hard to maintain, and increasingly difficult to scale as the company and its operations grow.

Solution

To make Automation First sustainable, Aampere decided that automation needed clear internal ownership. Rather than outsourcing automation long term, the goal was to build in house capabilities that create lasting value as automation and agentic systems become more relevant. As a result, the project focused on hiring a Business Automation & AI Manager (BAAM) to own and scale automation from within the company.

Automations are intentionally built with low code tools to enable business teams and avoid dependency on a purely technical function. This approach allows automation to expand across the organization over time, starting with Sales and extending to other business areas.

To ensure a strong start for the new role, NOA built the initial automation foundations in parallel with the hiring process.

Phase 1: Hiring the Business Automation Manager

NOA took ownership of the entire hiring process for the BAAM role, from sourcing to final selection. The objective was to find a profile that combined hands on automation skills with the motivation to become a long term driver of Automation First within the company.

The hiring process included:

  • Targeted sourcing via NOA’s talent network, talent scouting, and channels like LinkedIn

  • Screening candidates based on low code automation experience, problem solving ability, and learning mindset

  • Interviews focused on cultural fit, technical depth, and ownership mentality

  • A custom case study to validate real world automation and decision making skills

From initial sourcing to the start of the new BAAM, the process took four months.

Phase 2: Building Automation Foundations to Enable the BAAM

While the hiring process was ongoing, NOA built the first productive automations at Aampere. These workflows were designed as reference implementations and operated by NOA initially, before being handed over to the BAAM after onboarding.

In parallel, NOA set up the technical and structural foundations for scalable automation, including tool selection, API integrations, and basic standards. Initial use cases focus on Sales, creating immediate operational value while establishing a blueprint for rolling out automation across other teams.

Phase 3: Onboarding and Enablement

Since the Business Automation & AI Manager joined, NOA supports onboarding with a strong focus on enablement rather than simple handover. The goal is to ensure that automation knowledge is not isolated, but can be understood and applied across the business.

This includes:

  • Transferring ownership of existing automations and the overall setup

  • Enabling the BAAM to explain and extend the automation platform internally

  • Supporting initial collaboration with Sales teams so they can understand the platform and actively contribute to automation use cases

This approach ensures long term value by empowering business teams to work with the automation platform themselves, while the BAAM acts as an internal enabler and owner of Automation First.

NOA supported this approach not as a traditional recruitment agency, but as a specialist in process automation. This made it possible to assess candidates not only on general fit, but on their ability to design, structure, and maintain scalable automations that can operate reliably in real world environments.

By combining targeted hiring with a scalable low code automation setup, Aampere established a strong internal foundation that enables the company to own, operate, and continuously expand automation across the organization.

Results

Clear internal ownership of automations

By hiring and enabling a dedicated BAAM, Aampere established clear responsibility for designing, operating, and scaling automations across the company, reducing dependency on external support.

Scalable automation foundations

With a standardized low code setup, clear conventions, and initial production workflows in place, automation can now be rolled out systematically beyond the first Sales use cases into additional business areas.

Long term team enablement

Automation is no longer a purely technical topic. Business teams are enabled to understand automation, contribute ideas, and actively participate in improving processes, creating sustainable efficiency gains over time.

Automation only scales when it’s owned in-house. Building that capability early is key to growing Aampere fast and sustainably.

FINANCIALS

The hiring support is structured as a success based model. NOA works on a commission that depends on the agreed salary of the hire and is only due in case of a successful placement. This approach minimizes upfront risk and aligns incentives around long term fit and impact.
